How Roblox DevEx works in 2026: the rates, the rules and what you actually get
Roblox's Developer Exchange (DevEx) is the only official way to turn Robux into real money, and the numbers changed twice in the last year. Many articles and videos still quote the old $0.0035 rate. This guide uses the figures published in Roblox's own Creator Documentation, checked on 12 October 2026, and shows exactly what a given number of Robux pays out under each rate.
The short answer
DevEx converts earned Robux into US dollars. There are three rates in force. Robux earned before 5 September 2025 pay $0.0035 each. Robux earned since then pay the standard rate of $0.0038 each. And since 8 June 2026, qualifying earned Robux that come from age-checked adult players in the United States, spending in eligible experiences, pay $0.0054 each, which is 42 percent more than the standard rate.
You need at least 30,000 earned Robux in your account to make a request. At the standard rate that is $114. Only earned Robux count: Robux you bought, gift cards and trading profits cannot be cashed out.
The three DevEx rates
| Rate | Per Robux | Per 1,000 Robux | Per 30,000 Robux | Applies to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legacy | $0.0035 | $3.50 | $105 | Earned before 5 September 2025 |
| Standard | $0.0038 | $3.80 | $114 | Earned since 5 September 2025 |
| US 18+ qualifying | $0.0054 | $5.40 | $162 | Qualifying earned Robux from age-checked adult US players in eligible experiences, from 8 June 2026 |
The rate attaches to the Robux, not to the creator. A creator can hold Robux at different rates in the same account, which is why two creators with the same balance can see different payouts.
What counts as earned Robux
Roblox defines earned Robux as Robux you receive from the platform's creator economy, not Robux you buy. According to the Creator Documentation, these qualify:
- Sales inside your experiences: developer products, game passes and subscriptions
- Private server sales
- Marketplace item sales
- Creator rewards
These do not qualify:
- Robux you bought with money, including from the Roblox website or the mobile app
- Robux from gift cards
- Premium subscription stipend grants
- Profit from trading or reselling items
- Anything from content that breaks the rules
This is why the common idea of buying Robux and cashing them out never works. The payout is only available for Robux that other people spent in your creations.
Who can cash out, and how often
The official requirements are:
- You must be at least 13 years old
- A verified email address
- A DevEx portal account
- The correct tax form on file: a W-9 for US persons or a W-8 for non-US persons
- At least 30,000 earned Robux
You can have one completed DevEx request per calendar month. Roblox's documentation gives about ten business days for a first payout and about five business days for later ones, excluding weekends and holidays, before your payment provider and bank add their own time. Payouts are made in US dollars, so creators outside the US also face an exchange rate and sometimes bank fees.
The documentation does not list a Roblox Premium subscription as a requirement. Older articles sometimes claim it is, so check the current page if you are unsure.
Worked examples
Here is what common balances are worth at each rate, before any tax.
| Earned Robux | Legacy $0.0035 | Standard $0.0038 | US 18+ $0.0054 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30,000 | $105.00 | $114.00 | $162.00 |
| 50,000 | $175.00 | $190.00 | $270.00 |
| 100,000 | $350.00 | $380.00 | $540.00 |
| 500,000 | $1,750.00 | $1,900.00 | $2,700.00 |
| 1,000,000 | $3,500.00 | $3,800.00 | $5,400.00 |
To work out any other balance, multiply the Robux by the rate. For 12,345 Robux you cannot cash out yet because it is under the minimum, but the maths would give $46.91 at the standard rate.
From a player's purchase to your payout
Where does a player's money go before it reaches a creator? There are three steps, and each one takes a share.
- The purchase. Buying Robux in the mobile app costs more per Robux, because Apple and Google charge Roblox about 30 percent and that cost is passed on. Buying on the Roblox website or with a gift card can give up to 25 percent more Robux for the same money. Roblox reworked its Robux packages during 2026, so check your own checkout for the exact amounts.
- The marketplace share. When Robux are spent on sales in the Roblox marketplace, Roblox keeps about 30 percent before the creator's balance is credited.
- The exchange. The creator then cashes the earned Robux out at one of the three DevEx rates.
A worked example: a player spends 1,000 Robux in your experience. After the 30 percent share you earn 700 Robux. At the standard rate those 700 Robux pay $2.66. At the US 18+ rate they pay $3.78. If the player bought those 1,000 Robux on the website for about $9.99, the creator receives roughly 27 percent of what the player paid at the standard rate, or about 38 percent at the US adult rate. The rest covers Roblox's share and the difference between what Robux cost to buy and what DevEx pays out.
How much do players have to spend for you to earn $1,000?
At the standard rate you need about 263,158 earned Robux to cash out $1,000. Because Roblox keeps about 30 percent of marketplace sales first, players need to spend roughly 375,900 Robux to generate those earnings. At website prices of about $9.99 per 1,000 Robux that is around $3,750 of player spending. At the US 18+ rate you need 185,185 earned Robux, which is about $2,650 of spending on the same assumptions.
Common mistakes
- Using the old rate. Anything quoting $0.0035 as the current rate is out of date for Robux earned after September 2025.
- Counting bought Robux. Only earned Robux are eligible.
- Forgetting the 30,000 minimum. Smaller balances cannot be cashed out.
- Ignoring tax. DevEx income is usually taxable. Rules differ by country, so speak to an accountant. This guide is not tax advice.
- Assuming the US 18+ rate applies to everything. It applies only to qualifying earned Robux from age-checked adult US players in eligible experiences.
A short history of the DevEx rates
For years the Developer Exchange paid $0.0035 per Robux, which is where the familiar figure of $350 per 100,000 Robux comes from. That is the number most older videos and articles still quote. On 5 September 2025 the standard rate rose to $0.0038, an increase of about 8.6 percent. Robux earned before that date keep the old rate, which is why the legacy rate still exists.
The next change came in 2026. Roblox announced a 42 percent higher rate for spend from age-checked players aged 18 and over in the United States, in eligible experiences, taking effect on 8 June 2026. 0.0054 is 42 percent above 0.0038. Roblox's announcement framed it as support for higher-fidelity experiences aimed at adult players, and noted that creators earned more than $1.5 billion through DevEx in 2025.
Two lessons follow. The rate is a policy decision, not a constant, so any plan that depends on one figure should be rechecked each time you cash out. And the differences between creators' payouts now depend on who spent the Robux and where, not only on how many were earned.
How a cash-out works, step by step
- Check that your account has at least 30,000 earned Robux. Robux you purchased do not count towards this.
- Make sure you meet the account requirements: aged 13 or over, with a verified email address.
- Complete the DevEx portal and tax form steps described in Roblox's documentation: a W-9 if you are a US person, or a W-8 otherwise.
- Submit your request from the Developer Exchange section of your creator dashboard. You can complete one request per calendar month.
- Wait for processing. Roblox's documentation gives about ten business days for a first payout and about five for later ones, excluding weekends and holidays. Your bank may add more time.
- Receive US dollars. If your bank account is in another currency, your bank or payment provider converts the money and may charge a fee.
A realistic example: what a small game earns
Numbers are easier to understand with a concrete case. Imagine a small experience that earns 5,000 Robux a month after Roblox's cut. It takes six months to reach the 30,000 minimum. At the standard rate the first cash-out is $114, which averages about $19 a month. At the US 18+ rate the same 30,000 Robux would pay $162, about $27 a month, but only for the part of the earnings that qualifies.
A more successful experience that earns 50,000 Robux a month reaches the minimum in under a month and pays about $190 a month at the standard rate. Even that is a small figure next to the effort of building and running a game, which is why most creators treat DevEx as a way to cover costs and reinvest rather than an income on its own.
| Monthly earned Robux | Months to reach 30,000 | Standard rate per month | US 18+ rate per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | 6 | $19 | $27 |
| 20,000 | 1.5 | $76 | $108 |
| 50,000 | Under 1 | $190 | $270 |
| 200,000 | Under 1 | $760 | $1,080 |
What this means for parents and players
If you or your child buy Robux, the money does not pass to a creator in full. Part of it covers the platform and app store costs, Roblox keeps about 30 percent of marketplace sales, and creators are then paid at the DevEx rate rather than at the price players paid for Robux. This is not a judgment on whether the system is fair, only an explanation of the maths: on our worked example, roughly a quarter of what a player spends on the website ends up as a creator's cash-out at the standard rate.
It also explains why 'cashing out' Robux you bought is impossible. The system is built so that purchased Robux can only be spent on the platform.
Scams to avoid
Searches for DevEx and free Robux attract scams. A few rules keep you safe:
- Roblox never asks for your password, security code or account cookie to arrange a payout. Anyone who does is trying to take over your account.
- There is no way to turn bought Robux, gift cards or items into cash at the DevEx rate. Websites and messages claiming otherwise are scams or involve third-party trading that breaks the rules.
- DevEx is requested only through Roblox's own official portal. A third party cannot 'unlock' a better rate for a fee.
- Be careful with any site that promises free Robux or asks you to 'verify' by completing offers. Those are designed to harvest data or install unwanted software.
