FAQ

What resolution does DLSS Quality actually render at?

Two thirds of your output resolution on each axis: 1440p becomes about 1707 × 960, and 4K becomes 2560 × 1440. That is 44 percent of the pixels. Balanced renders at 58 percent per axis, Performance at 50 percent and Ultra Performance at 33 percent.

Why is the FPS gain smaller than the pixel saving?

Rendering 44 percent of the pixels does not make a frame 2.25 times faster, because some work does not scale with resolution and the upscaler itself costs time. Published tests such as Baldur's Gate 3 at 4K (DLSS Quality about +55 percent) and Black Myth: Wukong (about +35 percent at 1080p to +45 percent at 4K) show roughly a third of the ideal gain, which is what this calculator uses.

Is XeSS Quality the same as DLSS Quality?

No. From XeSS 1.3 the Quality mode renders at about 59 percent per axis, lower than DLSS and FSR Quality at 67 percent, so it is faster but softer.

Does frame generation reduce lag?

No. It raises the FPS shown but input is still sampled at the lower real frame rate, and published testing shows total latency rising slightly, for example from 40 ms to 53 ms with 4x on an RTX 5090 in Cyberpunk 2077 path tracing. AMD recommends at least a 60 FPS base before enabling it.

Why does a CPU-limited game barely improve?

Upscaling only lowers the GPU's work. If your CPU is the limit, the frame rate stays about the same, so use the CPU-limited switch for a realistic estimate.

Render scales are the official figures from NVIDIA, AMD and Intel documentation. FPS gains are an estimate fitted to published benchmarks and vary by game, so treat them as a guide. Next: estimate your native FPS or see which settings cost the most FPS.
